The character of this chair begins at the back, where each vertical slat is shaped on its own and set into a solid crown rail, forming a fan that narrows gently toward the seat. Between the slats the cream upholstered back panel shows through, giving the frame an unexpected lightness when seen from behind. The arms are worked from a single piece: they grow out of the seat frame, curve forward and finish in a rounded tip. On the side face an exposed wooden peg marks the joint, left visible rather than hidden away. Smoothly sanded surfaces bring out grain that travels between honey and chestnut tones, and the polish carries light softly along the curve of the slats. The finely textured seat cushion rests against a rounded wooden edge at the front. Tapered legs splayed forward and back lift the chair's body off the floor and balance its reclined sitting angle. A piece that knows how to stand alone in a reading corner or beside a window.
