The defining detail of this chair sits at the back: an oval medallion wrapped in cream-ecru bouclé, suspended behind the seat on nothing more than a slender wooden tongue. The few fingers of air between back and seat lighten the form and, seen from the side, make the piece read as two separate parts standing side by side. Thick round-section posts in honey-toned wood rise uninterrupted from the front legs and turn into the arms; their surfaces flow in waves that recall chisel work, ending in rounded knobs that settle into the palm. The seat is square in plan and generously filled, its looped bouclé raising a nubbly, tactile counterpoint to the smooth sheen of the timber. Horizontal rails wrap the underside on all four sides, and cylindrical legs with rounded feet give the body a low, planted base. Compact in scale, it holds its own placed alone in a reading corner, a bedroom or beside a sofa. The oval line of the back works as a gentle counter-voice to the right angles of a room.
