The seat is hollowed from solid timber like a spoon, its front edge curling upward into a slender tongue while the sides gather into thick, rounded lobes. Beneath it the body descends as a single column, narrows at the waist, then splits into opening leaves that meet the ground as a broad, wavy-edged base. Grain that shifts between honey and deep brown runs across these curves in broad bands, and on the seat and the backrest the lines where boards were joined edge to edge stay visible. The footrest ring and the cross bar inside it are copper; the curved plate carrying the backrest is the same metal, its screws left visible. That backrest is a separate wooden panel with softened corners, leaning back slightly at the end of the plate. Standing alone at a bar counter it holds its own focus, and lined up in a row the leaf forms at the base become a repeating rhythm.
