Iroko earns its place outside, taking sun, rain and changing seasons without losing its footing, and the thick slab here shows that resilience in a ribboned grain that runs the full length of the top. The rectangular surface is chamfered at each short end and broken again along its underside, so the mass reads lighter than it is. Where the boards meet at the corners the maker left the interlocking joint visible, a fine sawtooth line stitched into the edge. Two pale palms rise from a small wave in mother-of-pearl inlay, set diagonally at opposite corners, their fronds engraved leaf by leaf so they catch the light at an angle. Underneath, rounded solid profiles form two triangular frames, each braced by an inner diagonal and tied to the other by one stretcher running the length of the table, with broad feet that sit flat on paving. Leave it on the terrace and the surface will settle into its own weathered tone, deepening season after season around every meal it carries.
